I have been going to Gary and Tosca for the last 7-8 years, on my yearly business visits to Durban and always had a fantastic time at Ridgeview Lodge. The rooms are superb, the service is excellent and the honesty bar always works really well as far as I am concerned. Best of all are the copious breakfasts in the morning, set you off for a long day nicely, and often I can skip lunch happily knowing that close to the guest house are lovely restaurants! Gary and Tosca will recommend what's good and what's not so hot, they definitely know where to go in Durban! This is quite a city, very hilly and be very careful when you are out and about, but the restaurants in Durban are by far the most varied and usually high quality food is served. I was surprised that this fantastic guest house was not featured more on Trip Advisor, and just wanted to do it some justice as this is a really good place to stay, and very quiet if you are a light sleeper. Enjoy!

We stayed there our first night in South Africa. It's close to the airport and situated in a quiet and safe area. Thus this is the perfect place to stay for the first night(s). The owner was very helpful and arranged taxi and dinner reservation for us. We flew in delayed and really appreciated we didn't have to arrange anything ourselves. The next day we got a lot of tips for our round trip through Kwazulu Natal. We followed the advice and took a different route to the Drakensberg. The scenery along the Midlands Meander route was lovely and the recommended place for lunch beautiful. If we go back to Durban, we would definitely stay there again.

We also stayed in this guesthouse and had a wonderful time. The view over Durban and the harbour is spectacular, especially in the evening. A car is essential if you stay here but driving in the city wasn`t a problem though we got a ticket and fine for parking facing oncoming traffic. We even managed to reach Roukes drift, and Isandlwana in one day. It was tiring but worth the effort and the roads were virtually empty on that Sunday and the scenery is constantly changing. Our hosts, Tosca and Gary, were incredibly friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and their breakfast was a feast. The Ridgeview was a tropical oasis of quiet after long days of sightseeing,

This is a wonderful lodge. Much wooden works at lodge. Rooms and bathroom are complete and luxurious. The lodge has a swimming pool en a beautiful garden, with outlook on the city of Durban en de the harbour of Durban. The hospitality in de lodge by the owner is a bit formal, but it doesn't disturb. The lodge is well situated by the airport. A wonderful lodge. I can recommend this lodge very much.

Fulya (Craiova Romania)

This is a family run small hotel, very tastefully built and furnished with a view to the Durban bay. There are basically two types of acceptable accommodation in Durban; either you stay in one of the high-rise hotels at the beach or you stay in small lodges or hotels at the hillside (not in city centre). This hotel is on the hillside. The basic difference is: beach or the city centre does not feel safe even during daytime. However the area where this hotel is (Berea), is still close to the beach or city centre (by taxi costs about 70 Rand) and it is in an a lot nicer and safer part of the town. The owners of the hotel are very friendly and helpful. If we go to Durban again, this is the hotel we will stay at!

Elrich (Port Elizabeth)

High quality accommodation. Real value for money. I specifically enjoyed the hospitality of the owners, I was given clear directions to various venues and attractions. Also received recommendations of main tourists attractions (when we did not plan anything specific for the day). Friendly owners, without being overbearing.
